Ölüdeniz is one of the most photographed spots on the Turkish coast - the Blue Lagoon (Mavi Lagün) is a sheltered tidal lagoon of impossibly turquoise water backed by the Babadağ mountain, which is the launch point for what is widely regarded as the world’s best tandem paragliding site. The beach and lagoon are on the Ölüdeniz National Park (entry approximately ₺100 as of 2026). The resort itself is a lively, package-holiday-oriented strip of hotels and bars; the village of Ovacık, 2km inland, is quieter and has a good range of independent hotels and self-catering options. Fethiye, 15km north, provides the full range of city accommodation.

Practical Booking Tips

Ölüdeniz is one of Türkiye’s most heavily booked beach resorts in July and August - even mid-range properties fill well ahead. May, June and September are the best months: the paragliding is still excellent, the sea is warm and the Blue Lagoon is manageable without the peak crowds. The national park beach (where the lagoon is) charges an entry fee and is patrolled for appropriate behaviour - watersports equipment and alcohol are not permitted inside the park boundary. The paragliding season runs from April to October; the Babadağ launch is reachable by transfer vehicle (included in the flight price) and the Fethiye landing strip is on the beach.
