Alanya is the eastern anchor of the Turkish Riviera — a lively resort city built around a dramatic rocky promontory topped by a Seljuk-era castle, with two long sandy beaches sweeping in either direction. Cleopatra Beach to the west is the most popular and the most developed, lined with hotels and beach clubs all the way to the Damlataş headland. The eastern beach (Keykubat) is slightly quieter and favoured more by the city’s own residents. The old town inside the promontory walls has a handful of atmospheric pensions and small hotels. Most visitors, however, come for the beach and opt for the many all-inclusive resorts that stretch along the coast between Alanya and Mahmutlar to the east. Alanya is well served by Gazipaşa Airport (approximately 40km east) and is around two hours from Antalya by bus.

Best Areas to Stay in Alanya
Cleopatra Beach and town centre is the most convenient option — close to the harbour, castle, bazaar and the western beach. It’s lively but suits visitors who want everything close at hand.
Keykubat Beach (eastern side) is slightly quieter and more popular with domestic Turkish visitors, with a less commercialised strip of beach and sea-view restaurants that cater less exclusively to package tourists.
Mahmutlar (10km east) is a cheaper resort strip with a younger bar scene and a large Russian-speaking expat population. Accommodation prices are noticeably lower and the beaches less crowded.
What to Do in Alanya
The Alanya Castle (entry approximately ₺100 as of 2026, cash only at the gate) sits 250 metres above the sea on the rocky promontory and offers exceptional panoramic views over both beaches and the harbour. The Red Tower (Kızıl Kule) down on the harbour front dates to 1226 and houses a small ethnographic museum (approximately ₺50 entry). Damlataş Cave, set into the western headland, has humid air long used for asthma therapy and is open daily for approximately ₺50. The Phosphorescent Cave (Fosforlu Mağara) and Cleopatra’s Cave are accessible by boat trip from the harbour for approximately ₺300–450 per person. Alanya is also one of the main departure points for banana boating, jet skiing and parasailing — all available directly from Cleopatra Beach at published rates.
Practical Booking Tips
Alanya is a charter flight destination from most European cities, particularly Germany, Russia and Scandinavia. This means accommodation is widely sold as packages and last-minute deals can be competitive in shoulder season. Peak summer (July–August) fills early in the all-inclusive sector. Gazipaşa Airport is 40km east of the city; taxis cost approximately ₺600–900 as of 2026. The IETT bus (Line 100) runs between Alanya and Antalya every hour for approximately ₺100. Most large all-inclusive hotels run their own airport transfer shuttle service — worth requesting at the time of booking to avoid individual taxi fares.
