Side is an ancient Greek and Roman city built on a small peninsula jutting into the Mediterranean coast - a remarkable combination of well-preserved ruins (including a substantial Roman theatre, two temples and a triumphal arch) embedded within a working resort town. The old city peninsula is largely pedestrianised and has a historic character that most Antalya-coast resorts lack; the long beaches stretching east and west of the peninsula are backed by an almost continuous strip of large resort hotels. Side suits visitors who want to combine archaeological interest with beach and resort facilities.

Best Areas to Stay in Side
Old City Peninsula is the most unique base - sleeping among Roman ruins is a genuinely unusual experience, and the temple of Apollo, the theatre and the Roman baths are walkable from any accommodation here. The old city has good restaurants and a pleasant evening atmosphere once the day visitors leave.
East Beach stretches east from the old city and is backed by the largest concentration of resort hotels. It’s busy and commercial in season but has the widest choice of beach-front properties.
West Beach is shorter and slightly less developed, with a mix of smaller hotels and apartment properties. It has a calmer character than the east beach strip.
Manavgat Town (4km east) has city-standard hotels away from the beach with better transport connections to Antalya (65km) and the region.

Practical Booking Tips
Side’s summer season runs June to September, with July and August at maximum capacity. The resort hotel strip east of the old city is heavily package-holiday oriented - British, German and Russian visitors dominate. The old city itself is more independent traveller territory. The Temple of Apollo (free to visit, open 24 hours) is particularly beautiful at sunset and again after dark when the columns are lit. The Side Museum (entry approximately ₺100 as of 2026) in the Roman bathhouse complex has an excellent collection of local marble sculpture. The Manavgat Waterfall, 5km east, is a popular half-day trip from Side.
