Day Trips from Izmir
İzmir’s position on the Aegean coast makes it an outstanding base for day trips. Çeşme (80km west) has a charming fortified town, windsurfing on the Alaçatı lagoon and some of the best seafood restaurants on the Aegean coast. All three are reachable by bus from İzmir’s Otogar (main bus terminal, connected to the metro) for approximately ₺80–150 per journey. Train services also run to Selçuk (the nearest town to Ephesus) from Basmane station.

İzmir hosts the International Izmir Fair in September, which fills hotels quickly and pushes rates up sharply across all categories. Book well ahead if visiting in late August or September. The city’s tramway connects Konak, Alsancak and Bornova efficiently. Ferries from the Kordon to Karşıyaka on the north shore offer a pleasant 20-minute crossing and run until midnight. Taxis from Adnan Menderes Airport to the city centre cost approximately ₺400–600 as of 2026; the Havaş bus service is cheaper. The İZBAN suburban rail links the airport to Alsancak in about 30 minutes for approximately ₺30 — by far the best-value airport connection in the city.
