Bodrum Gulet Cruises: Greek Islands, Gökova Bay & Bodrum Peninsula Routes

Bodrum is where the gulet was invented. The city’s famous wooden boatbuilding tradition dates to the 1940s, and the workshop yards of Milta and Karada still produce custom vessels exported across the Mediterranean. Today the marina is one of the most active in Turkey: 150+ gulets in peak season, routes that span from the Greek islands of the Dodecanese to the quiet inlets of Gökova Bay. If you’ve ever seen a classic two-masted Turkish wooden schooner under sail, it almost certainly came out of Bodrum.

Where Gulets Depart

Bodrum has three main departure points:

Bodrum Marina (Milta Marina): The largest and most central, directly below Bodrum Castle on the western bay. Day-trip boats leave from the adjacent public jetty from 09:00 daily. Taxis from the central square (Adliye Meydanı) cost under TRY 80.

Bodrum Town Quay (Eski Balıkçı Barınağı): The old fishing harbour east of the castle. Smaller gulets and private day charters operate from here; slightly cheaper than Milta Marina rates.

Turgutreis Marina: 18 km west of Bodrum centre, on the tip of the peninsula closest to Kos. Used by operators running Greek island day trips - saves 45–60 minutes of sailing each way.

Greek Island Day Trips from Bodrum

Bodrum sits 6 nautical miles from the Greek island of Kos and 19 nautical miles from Kalymnos - distances short enough for comfortable day excursions by gulet or hydrofoil. Several operators combine a morning crossing with afternoon time ashore.

Kos day trip: Depart Bodrum (usually from Turgutreis) around 09:00, arrive Kos Town by 10:30. Free time ashore: ancient agora, Castle of the Knights, waterfront cafés. Return by 17:00. Price as of 2026: EUR 55–75 per person including port taxes. Passport or national ID required; EU citizens typically can use ID card, others need full passport.

Kalymnos sponge-diver island: Less visited than Kos, stronger traditional character. Tour operators include Bodrum Cruise Lines and Sea Dream Yachting. Prices: EUR 65–85 per person for the day.

Symi and Rhodes: Longer-range trips taking 2 nights by gulet. Less common than the Kos circuit, but operators like Gino Yachting offer tailor-made itineraries. Confirm visa requirements - Turkish citizens boarding Greek island crossings need a Schengen visa.

Note: Greek island day trips involve border crossing. Your operator handles port formalities, but you must carry travel documents. Check current crossing rules with your operator at booking time, as regulations on Turkish side can change seasonally.

Gökova Bay Overnight Cruises (4–7 Nights)

Gökova Bay is the Aegean answer to the Fethiye-area bays - a long, narrow fjord-like inlet north of Bodrum, with protected anchorages, pine forests running to the waterline, and notably clear water. This is the classic Bodrum-departure multi-day route.

Cabin prices as of 2026: EUR 420–580 per person for 4 nights on a shared gulet (8–12 passengers). Full boat private charter: EUR 3,200–4,800 for 4 nights, accommodating 6–8 people.

7-night Gökova extension: Continues further east into the bay, reaching Hisarönü Gulf and potentially looping back via Datça peninsula. Price: EUR 580–750 per person, EUR 5,500–7,500 for full private charter.

• Palmarina Bodrum - newer fleet, air-conditioned cabins standard, good meal quality
• Osman Yachting - specialises in small groups (max 8), custom itineraries, slightly higher price point

Bodrum Peninsula Island-Hopping (Day Trips)

Several day-trip boats circle the Bodrum peninsula itself, stopping at accessible beaches and coves that are difficult to reach by road.

Karaada (Black Island): 3 nautical miles from Bodrum marina. Hot spring seeping through cave wall at the waterline - mud from the walls is claimed to be good for skin. Standard day-trip stop. Island excursion boats include Karaada as part of a larger circuit for around EUR 40–55 per person.

Aquarium Cove and Paradise Bay: Popular snorkelling stops on the peninsula’s south coast, reachable in 20 minutes from Bodrum marina.

Kara Ada–Bardakçı circuit: A half-day private gulet charter visiting Karaada, Bardakçı Koyu, and Torba Bay costs from EUR 350–450 for the whole boat (up to 10 guests) as of 2026.

Best Season

• May: Quietest and cheapest. Sea temperature 18–20°C - acceptable for snorkelling but chilly for longer swims. Wildflowers along the Bodrum peninsula at their peak.
• June: Good balance of warm water (22–24°C) and manageable crowds. Book 6–8 weeks ahead.
• July–August: Meltemi winds hit the Aegean harder here than further south. Crossings to Greek islands can be choppy. Inside Gökova Bay the wind is less severe. Book gulets 3–4 months in advance.
• September–October: Best all-round month. Water peaks at 26°C in early September, crowds drop markedly after the first week of September. Greek island trips resume regular frequency post-summer.
• November–April: Most day-trip boats suspended. Private charters possible but require advance arrangement with operators.

What Is Included

Shared gulet rates include:

• Three meals daily (breakfast, lunch set; dinner usually a hot cooked meal)
• Water and tea/coffee
• Snorkelling gear
• Crew: captain + 1–2 deckhands; some boats include a cook as a fourth crew member
• Port fees and fuel

Not included: alcohol, soft drinks, tipping crew (EUR 10–15 per person per day is standard), transfers to the marina from Bodrum centre, travel insurance.

Cabin Types

Bodrum-built gulets tend to run slightly larger than those based in Fethiye - 4-cabin and 6-cabin layouts are most common for shared charters, while private charter yachts can reach 8 cabins.

Standard double cabin: Typically 6–8 sqm, en-suite WC/shower, 12V outlets, air conditioning. Some older vessels have fans rather than AC - confirm at booking if this matters in July–August.

Aft master cabin: Larger, sometimes with a king bed and window rather than porthole. On many vessels the aft cabin has a private terrace. Surcharge: 20–35% over standard cabin rate.

Private charter: You book the entire vessel, typically 2–3 crew included. Custom menus possible. Suitable for groups of 6–12 depending on boat size.
