Datça is at the tip of the Bozburun Peninsula - a narrow spine of mountains jutting 80 km into the Aegean between the Gulf of Gökova and the Gulf of Hisarönü. The peninsula is accessible only by a winding single-track mountain road (1.5 hours from Marmaris) or by sea, which has kept development minimal. The waters are among the clearest on the Turkish coast - the Aegean currents here sweep in from the open sea.
At the tip of the peninsula, the ruins of Knidos (ancient Cnidus) occupy a double-harboured promontory at the junction of the Aegean and Dorian coastlines. Knidos was an important Dorian Greek city - home of the sculptor Praxiteles (famous for the Aphrodite of Knidos, the first nude female sculpture in Western art), the mathematician Eudoxus, and the physician Ctesias. We have mapped 8 top-rated Datça tours below.

Knidos Archaeological Ruins Boat Tour
The full-day Knidos boat tour from Datça harbour (35 km by sea, inaccessible by road from the Datça side) reaches the site by boat in 1.5 hours. Knidos occupies both a mainland promontory and a small connected island - the Hellenistic city was laid out on a grid plan, with the two harbours separated by a channel that could be closed with a chain.
The ruins include the circular Temenos of Aphrodite (where the famous Praxiteles statue once stood - a Roman copy survives in the Vatican), the Temple of Apollo, the Corinthian temple, the Hellenistic theatre (capacity 5,000, carved into the hillside), and the Byzantine church. The site is extensive and largely unexcavated - expect rubble fields between the cleared monuments.
Duration: Full day | Price: From approximately $30 | Includes: Boat, guide, ruins entry | Note: Limited shade at the site - hat and water essential
For Swimming
Datça Boat Trip - Palamutbükü and Bays
Palamutbükü (8 km from Datça town) is a wide, sheltered bay with one of the finest sand-and-shingle beaches on the peninsula. The peninsula boat trip covers Palamutbükü, the sea caves of Hayıtbükü, Mesudiye Bay, and the small island of Karaada (Black Island). Five swimming stops in clear Aegean water.
Duration: Full day | Price: From approximately $25 | Includes: Boat, lunch, guide | Departure: Datça harbour 09:30

Old Datça Village and Almond Orchards Walk
Eski Datça (Old Datça) is a stone village 3 km from the modern town, where the original stone houses have been restored as small guesthouses and olive oil shops. The village and orchards walk covers Eski Datça’s restored lanes, the almond orchards (Datça is the main almond-growing region on the Turkish coast - the Datça almond festival runs in February at blossom), and an olive oil tasting at a working press.
Duration: 3 hours | Price: From approximately $25 | Includes: Guide, olive oil tasting
For Active Travellers
Kayaking to Sea Caves - Datça Coastline
The irregular limestone coastline north of Datça has sea caves accessible only by kayak or small dinghy. The kayak tour from Mesudiye beach explores three cave systems and several archways carved by wave action. Snorkelling equipment is included for stops above the rocky reefs.
Duration: 4 hours | Price: From approximately $35 | Includes: Kayak, guide, snorkelling gear
Practical Information
Getting to Datça: By bus from Marmaris, 1.5 hours on winding mountain road. By ferry from Bodrum (1.5-hour fast catamaran, daily in summer). By gulet from Marmaris, Göcek, or Bodrum on sailing routes. Datça has no airport - nearest is Dalaman (120 km by road) or Bodrum (ferry + road).
Knidos by road: There is a dirt road from Datça to Knidos (35 km, 1.5 hours by 4WD) - accessible by rental car but rough. The boat trip is the standard approach and gives better perspective on the double harbour layout.
Almond festival: The Datça Almond Festival (Badem Çiçeği Festivali) runs in February when the trees are in blossom. The entire peninsula turns white.
