Cappadocia Balloon Festival 2026: July 30–August 2
The annual Cappadocia Hot Air Balloon Festival takes place July 30–August 2, 2026, bringing together balloon pilots from across Turkey and internationally for mass ascent flights over the region’s volcanic landscape. The festival is the most concentrated period of the year for balloon activity in Cappadocia and draws significantly more pilots than a standard morning flight season.
What to Expect at the Festival
Each morning during the four-day festival, balloon pilots launch from designated take-off zones across the Göreme valley in a coordinated mass ascent. The best viewing is from the ridge at Sunset Point in Göreme, from the rooftop terraces of cave hotels in Göreme or Ürgüp, or from the roads above the Rose Valley - all of which provide panoramic views over the landscape as dozens of balloons rise simultaneously at first light.
In the evenings, organisers run a drone light show timed to music above the valley, typically starting around 21:00 and lasting 20–25 minutes. The show location for 2026 has not been confirmed at time of writing, but in previous years it has been viewable from Göreme town centre.
The festival also includes ground events in Göreme’s central square: food and craft stalls, live music, and balloon-themed activities during the day.
Booking Flights During Festival Week
Commercial balloon rides operate separately from the festival competition flights. If you plan to fly during July 30–August 2, book your flight well in advance - this is the busiest period of the year and many operators fill up weeks ahead. Prices during the festival period are typically at the higher end of the seasonal range, around €200–€280 per person for a one-hour flight.
Weather conditions dictate whether flights take place each morning. Winds above a certain threshold ground all flights; the festival has contingency dates but cannot guarantee all four mornings will fly. Where to Stay and Getting There
Accommodation in Göreme and Ürgüp books out fast during festival week. If cave hotels in Göreme are sold out, Ürgüp and Avanos are viable bases with lower prices and good road access to the festival sites.
The nearest airports are Nevşehir Kapadokya (40 km) and Kayseri Erkilet (80 km), both served by regular domestic flights from Istanbul and Ankara. Shuttle transfers to Göreme from both airports are widely available.
