What the numbers mean
All figures are in US dollars, approximately, as of 2026. Prices are quoted in lira and the lira keeps weakening, so treat every number as an estimate and check current rates before you travel.
- Accommodation: Hostel dorms and simple pansiyons run approximately $9-22 a night. Mid-range boutique hotels in Istanbul, Cappadocia or Antalya run $40-95, with cave hotels in Cappadocia at the higher end in peak season.
- Food: Street food (simit, döner, lahmacun, balik ekmek) keeps a day at $6-12. Sit-down meals in a local lokanta cost less than tourist-area restaurants in Sultanahmet or Bodrum.
- Activities: Major site entry fees such as Topkapi Palace or Ephesus are approximately $15-25 each. Guided day tours and hot air balloon flights cost considerably more, so the per-activity range here is an average.
- Transport: City metro, tram and ferry rides cost under $1 each; intercity buses are around $10-30 on long routes. Domestic flights and car rental are extra.
- Flights: Not included - budget separately.
